Reamer Coolant
Bushings:
Variables such as reamer material or design,
engine valve guide
material, temperature at the reamed surface, drill speed, operator movement and
inconsistent feedrates affect the engine valve guide reaming process. By controlling these
variables to the best extent possible, the valve guide reaming process can quickly and easily produce
highly accurate, and consistently sized valve guide bores that are superior to even new
valve guides! Our reamer coolant bushings are designed to minimize the affects of both the
temperature at the reamed surface and operator movement.
The reamer bushings are precisely machined from
52100 steel before being hardened. This hardening ensures that your valve guides will be
consistently reamed without any out-of-rounding caused by worn bushings. The bushings are
provided with a coolant port that sends the coolant directly to the leading edge of the
reamer. The outer diameter of each bushing is ground to an OD of 0.6247+/- 0.0002 in. to
fit tightly into your existing valve seat cones. The barrel is perpendicular to the seat
cone mating surface to within 0.0005 in. and the bore is concentric with the barrel to
within 0.001 in.
By placing the reamer/cone/bushing assembly against your
engine valve seat while reaming the guide, you are eliminating any error that would otherwise
have been caused by operator movement. By using the reamer bushing, you'll also be injecting the reamer cutting surface
with coolant which reduces the temperature at the cutting surface and washes away the
metal particles. Thus, your reamed guides will be more consistent. They'll also be
perfectly aligned with the valve seats, and have a better surface finish. For more
information on the advantages on wet reaming, read our study entitled,
Effect of Coolant Use on Valve Guide Diameter
During Reaming.
