Engine Valve Guide Reamers:

Variables such as reamer material or design, engine valve guide material, temperature at the reamed surface, drill speed, and operator movement affect the engine valve guide reaming process. By controlling these variables to the best extent possible, the reaming process can quickly and easily produce highly accurate, and consistently sized engine valve guide bores that are superior to even new valve guides! Our reamers are designed to quickly and precisely cut through most valve guide materials (sorry, not bronze guides) and leave the bore with a more consistent size down the entire length of the guide. They also minimize the hour-glass effect, and help maintain the same bore size from one valve guide to the next. reamerbig.jpg (22542 bytes)

As with any machining operation, proper tooling is essential for maintaining consistent size, and quality finish. By using our exclusive six flute, left hand spiral - right hand cut solid carbide reamers, you'll be able to achieve both of these goals. Our engine valve guide reamers are manufactured from solid micro grain carbide resulting in an extended service life (typically 20,000 to 30,000 guides). The reamers are manufactured to tight tolerances which result in an extremely accurate sized bore with superior finish, unlike four flute brazed carbide reamers.

Utilizing our engine valve guide reamers, valve guides can be quickly repaired by reaming their diameters 0.008 in. oversize (or to your specific size requirements) to accommodate
CalValves® +8 valves. The resulting time saving over replacing the valve guides is significant. As an added benefit, the finish of the reamed valve guide is actually superior to most replacement guides resulting in less valve wear. Most new guides have bores with surface finishes of 60 to 80 µin. Ra right from the box. A guide wet reamed with CalValves reamers will typically have bores with a surface finish of 10 to 25 µin. Ra.
